2019 was a busy year for the Security Token Academy. From January – December, we worked hard to cover and facilitate the security token industry. Through the media and events we produced, we introduced issuers, investors and professionals in financial services to the leaders of this industry who elaborated on the deals, laws and infrastructure being created to digitize finance.
Here’s a roundup of key content we published last year to communicate the key breakthroughs and milestones across this industry. We have organized this content into four categories. And we have described each of these illuminating communications, as well as provided links to that information, for you. If you missed any of this content the first time, you’ll enjoy it now. And if you read or watched it before, you’ll find it as useful today as it was before.
Former Vice Chairman of Nasdaq and CEO of Weild & Co., David Weild, provides clarity about how security tokens relate to today’s world of traditional finance. He also covers the benefits of tokenization when issuing and trading securities.
At our January 16, 2019 live, multi-city webinar, we explored a new form of disruptive financing for commercial real estate via security tokens. This webinar brought to life the tokenization process used at one resort to raise capital. It will provide you with great insight on how tokenization of an asset unfolds.
Our Director of Strategy, Derek Edward Schloss, wrote a must-read article on transformative innovations and how they mature and change the future.
In this article, Derek cited: “It’s more clear to me that the intersection between blockchains and our global pool of assets is inevitable. What digitization did for mail, it will also do for all the world’s value — regardless of kind or type. A new programmable format for assets (digitization), paired with a new model for how assets can be tracked and owned (trustless ledgers), will provide transformative value in both our public and private markets.”
Here’s another insightful article by Derek Edward Schloss. In it, he explores and interprets the current regulatory landscape for blockchain-based fundraising. He dissects three high-profile cases involving SEC violations and settlements.
You will learn a lot by reading his analysis of these three cases and their implications for the security token industry going forward.
In 2019, we launched The Digital Wrapper, a series of narratives that take you behind the scenes to meet the professionals building out the security token industry. We featured many narratives in 2019 including some of our STA Corporate Members – Securitize, Tokeny, tZERO and Vertalo.
During 2019, we added to our roster of video interviews of our 16 Corporate Members. These industry pioneers will teach you how security tokens are driving the emergence of new financial markets, moving the world’s assets to the blockchain.
There is no better way to learn about an industry than to watch innovators talk about what they are building and how that will affect business and commerce.
In 2019, we added to our Members’ program by inviting attorneys who specialize in blockchain-based assets to become Professional Members of the Security Token Academy. Ten of these legal experts signed on to share their knowledge with you via articles and podcast interviews.
In early 2019, STA launched The Security Token Edge newsletter. You will stay on top of blockchain-based digital assets by reading our newsletter. It is currently read by industry professionals, financial professionals, investors, institutions and family offices.
The Edge covers breaking news featuring the leading companies, latest deals, upcoming collaborations and breakthrough insights. It is curated without bias by our resident expert, Derek Edward Schloss, with links to articles written by industry experts. It’s delivered weekly to your inbox, free.
Launched in the summer of 2019, Security Token Stories is the name for our educational podcasts about the projects, networks and leaders building the foundation of the security token industry. It is the leading podcasts in this industry.
In each podcast episode, Derek Edward Schloss interviews industry insiders and asks the questions professionals, service providers, investors and enthusiasts want to know about the digitization of assets, securities and finance.
The centerpiece of our video programming is Security Token Insight, our biweekly show covering the evolving security token industry. The show’s signature segment -- STO Spotlight – introduces you to companies planning to, or have launched, a Security Token Offering (STO).
This online, popular show has exceeded 1.1 million views.
2019 was another busy year for events produced and hosted by the Security Token Academy. On January 31, 2019, we kicked off the year with a Los Angeles Meetup in The Grove at Maggiano’s restaurant.
Security token experts and enthusiasts packed the house, enjoying a night of networking and fun. They also listened to a panel of industry experts talk about their predictions for the security token industry in 2019.
You can see what happened at this LA Meetup by watching our video capture of the event.
On June 12, 2019, STA partnered with one of our Corporate Members, Fincross International, to host our first international meetup in London. Other Corporate Members, Merrill Lynch Private Banking & Investment Group and Clifford Chance, sponsored this event with us.
The meetup took place at the illustrious 12 Hay Hill Club, and it was an evening of networking, discussion and fun.
On September 26, 2019, our team hosted a third networking event – this time, in New York City at Chelsea Piers’ Sunset Terrace restaurant.
We brought together security token experts and financial services professionals for an evening of informative discussions and productive networking. Several of our Corporate and Professional Members were part of a panel discussion on securities regulations and corporate and commercial finance.
